By God’s grace, Alfred Hanna was ordained as Fr. Daniel Hanna on November 30, 2010.
Born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada in 1971 and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Fr. Daniel immigrated to the United States at Grade 2. After graduating from high school in St. Louis, he moved to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois for his undergraduate education. He subsequently attended to Chicago, Illinois to join his family and pursue his graduate education.
Fr. Daniel holds a dual degree in Chemistry and International Relations from Knox College, a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Loyola University Chicago, a Master’s degree in Information Systems Management from Northern Illinois University, an M.B.A. from Northern Illinois University and a J.D. specializing in Intellectual Property Law from the John Marshall Law School. Fr. Daniel was a practicing attorney for almost seven years when he was called to priesthood.
Fr. Daniel worked at a global law firm of 1,600+ lawyers worldwide representing technology companies in intellectual property and licensing matters. He was admitted to the State Bar of Illinois, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and further admitted to the Patent Bar of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He also taught Continuing Legal Education on Patents and Open Source Software to attorneys in Pennsylvania and Illinois at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and Northwestern University.
Fr. Daniel has served in the Coptic Orthodox Church since he was nine years old, first as a deacon, then as a Sunday School teacher and later as a youth group and college missions leader. During his university studies, Fr. Daniel researched the history of Coptic persecution in Egypt. Using his Master’s in Counseling he has also served in the Coptic Church as a marriage counselor now for nearly 22 years.
Fr. Daniel was first ordained by the blessed hands of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III on November 30, 2010 to serve at St. Maurice & St. Verena Coptic Orthodox Church in Toronto. In August, 2016, he was transferred to St. Augustine & St. Monica Coptic Orthodox Church in Summit, New Jersey.
On October 2, 2018 His Holiness Pope Tawadros established and personally named the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Resurrection, a new church in New Jersey, dedicated to serving Americans and English-speakers of every nationality, commissioning Fr. Daniel to launch and serve there.
Fr. Daniel is married to his wife, Debbie, and together they have been blessed with three children. His interests include evangelism, marriage enrichment, football, nutrition and physical fitness.Contact Information:
